FC Dallas News Release
FRISCO, Texas (Friday, Dec. 13) - FC Dallas has acquired veteran defensive midfielder Adam Moffat from Seattle Sounders FC, the club announced today.
In return, Seattle receives allocation money and the rights to negotiate a contract with Kenny Cooper, who prior to the trade would have been available in the MLS Re-entry Draft as Dallas was unable to come to terms with the veteran forward.
Moffat, 27, set career-highs with 26 appearances, 24 starts and three goals for Houston in 2013 before the Dynamo traded him to Seattle in mid-September. After joining Sounders FC, he played six games, starting the final four matches of the regular season and all three playoff matches for the club.
The Scottish midfielder won the 2008 MLS Cup with Sigi Schmid's Columbus Crew and started in the 2011 and 2012 MLS Cup final with Houston.
A seven-year MLS veteran, Moffat has made 116 appearances with 12 goals and six assists for Columbus, Portland, Houston and Seattle. He first joined MLS in 2007 when Schmid signed him to the Crew as a discovery player. He made 44 appearances over four seasons with Columbus, scoring five goals with one assist. Moffat also has appeared in 21 MLS playoff matches, notching an assist in the 2012 MLS Cup final. Moffat made 12 starts for Houston in his first season and was named the club's 2011 Newcomer of the Year.
