D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (December 13, 2013) - D.C. United today announced that the club has picked up former U.S. youth international Conor Doyle in a permanent transfer from Derby County.
After one semester at Creighton University, Doyle signed his first professional contract with Derby County (English Championship) after a trial period with the club in 2010. After making 14 appearances with the first team in the 2010-2011 season, Doyle suffered both ankle and hamstring injuries, limiting him to six fixtures that year. In the 2012-2013 season, the young forward dealt with appendicitis and only saw one start and one substitute appearance.
"Conor is a very talented, young forward that will continue to improve," said D.C. United Scouting Coordinator Kurt Morsink. "His ability to get in good spots and anticipate service is very rare for his age, and makes him a unique forward."
While representing the Black-and-Red, the striker made 14 regular season appearances (8 starts), tallied twice and assisted once. Doyle also made two appearances in United's run to Open Cup glory, coming on as a substitute in both the semi final and final matches.
Doyle has also made in impact on the international front. The forward appeared six times with the U.S. U-20 National Team, scoring four times including twice at the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championships. He also featured for the Irish U-20 squad and played in one friendly before committing his international future to the US. Doyle currently has one cap with the U.S. U-23 team.
