Fayetteville Woodpeckers News Release
SALISBURY, MD - It was another rough night offensively on Saturday at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (15-11), who fell to the Delmarva Shorebirds (6-19), 3-1. The Woodpeckers have lost three straight games for the first time this season.
Fayetteville starter Jackson Nezuh (L, 0-3) put together a respectable outing on the mound, going four innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out five batters. The Shorebirds grabbed an unearned run off of Nezuh in the first on an Aron Estrada RBI single before scoring twice in the third thanks to an Estrada run-scoring groundout and another RBI single from Anderson De Los Santos.
Nezuh was tailed by Ethan Pecko, who turned in his best appearance of the year. The 2023 Astros sixth round pick did not allow a run or hit over four frames while fanning three.
Fayetteville was shut out by Delmarva starter Nestor German, who allowed just one hit and struck out eight over four and two-thirds innings pitched. The righty surrendered an unearned run on a wild pitch where Chase Jaworsky came in to score the lone Woodpeckers run. The Shorebirds also got an exceptional performance from reliever Braxton Bragg (W, 1-0), who dealt four shutout frames to secure the win.
Both teams will meet in the series finale on Sunday afternoon in Salisbury. LHP Colby Langford gets the start for the Woodpeckers opposite RHP Trey Gibson. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM.
