Fargo Finishes Sweep with Four-Run Eighth

FARGO, N.D. - The Kansas City T-Bones (12-14) took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but a four-run frame by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (12-15) handed Kansas City their fourth straight loss, 4-1, at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.

Luis Villarreal threw six shutout innings for Kansas City, but the RedHawks didn't make it easy on the T-Bones left-hander. Fargo stranded at least one runner in each of their first seven innings this afternoon and 12 on the afternoon.

Villarreal pitched out of bases-loaded jams in both the third and fourth innings. In the third, Fargo began the inning with a double and two walks, bringing former major-leaguer Randall Simon to the plate with nobody out and the bases full. Villarreal induced a broken-bat foul pop from Simon before striking out Zach Penprase for the second out. Carlo Cota then popped out to second to end the threat.

After a walk, single and hit batter loaded the bases with two outs for the RedHawks in the fourth, Villarreal got Yurendell DeCaster to pop out to first to end the inning. Villarreal scattered five hits while walking four and hitting two batters in a no-decision.

Kansas City scored their lone run off Yosandy Ibanez in the third inning when Damian Rolls doubled with two out and scored on a single by the next batter, Greg Jacobs. Ibanez lasted six innings, allowing one run on six hits in his first start since April 25, 2007. He would not factor into the decision.

Daniel Sattler threw a scoreless seventh in relief of Villarreal before walking Penprase to begin the eighth. Todd Moser (1-1) entered to face Justin Justice, who sacrificed Penprase to second. After a single by Kole Zimmerman put runners at the corners, Fargo tied the game on a wild pitch by Moser. Following a single by Mike Coles that again put runners on first and third, Zimmerman came home on a fielder's choice groundout by Nic Jackson. DeCaster capped off the inning with a two-run home run, his eighth of the year, to push the final total to 4-1.

Moser took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits over one inning of work. Elvys Quezada (1-0) got the final five outs for Fargo to earn his first decision of the season. The T-Bones left a runner in scoring position in each of their final four innings.

Kansas City now heads to Gary for a four-game set beginning tomorrow night. Justin James (2-2, 7.46) takes the mound for the T-Bones in game one against Tom Thornton (3-3, 6.75) and the RailCats. First pitch is set for 7:00.
