Joliet JackHammers News Release


JOLIET, IL-Manager Wally Backman used the last two off days to make a plethora of moves in the hopes of fortifying his 2009 club. The JackHammers have signed former Fargo-Moorhead RedHawk and Winnipeg Goldeye Tydus Meadows to a 2009 contract. Joliet has also announced a pair of trades: sending DH Joey Gomes to the Edmonton Capitals of the Golden Baseball League in exchange for IF/OF Gary Harris. Harris, who played with the JackHammers in 2006 before his contract was purchased by the Philadelphia Phillies returns to the JackHammers for his second stint. The JackHammers also traded RHP Grant Johnson to the Gary SouthShore RailCats in exchange for IF Isaac Omura. In additions to the above moves, the JackHammers also placed OF Tim Alberts and RHP Aaron Trolia on the Disabled List and activated IF/OF Wally Backman, Jr. from the DL.

Both Meadows and Omura will be in the lineup today in game one of a doubleheader when the JackHammers play the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 2:05 p.m.

Meadows last played in 2008 for the Goldeyes. He hit .290 with seven home runs and 49 RBI. In 2007, the Evans, GA native played for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and hit .301 with 17 home runs and 59 RBI. Meadows was originally drafted in the 27th round of the 1998 draft by the Cubs and reached as high as AAA Las Vegas in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in 2006.

Harris hit .222 with three home runs and 9 RBI for the Capitals at the start of the season. The manager of the Capitals is Mokena resident Brent Bowers.

Omura played in 14 games for the RailCats this season. He has logged time at first and third base and will play second base for the JackHammers in game one of the twin bill.
