Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Tom McCarthy's goal at 10:58 of the second period snapped a 2-2 tie and would stand up as the game winner as the Fargo Force went on to defeat the host RoughRiders 3-2 Saturday night.
McCarthy scored from the high slot to put the Force back on top after the Riders had earlier in the second period rallied to erase a 2-0 Fargo lead.
The Riders got on the scoreboard for the first time at 2:47 of the second when Jeff Costello fired the puck home from the left wing circle. Two and a half minutes later the Riders were on the power play when Costello struck again, tipping in a Mike Seidel shot for the tying goal.
It was the Force who got the early jump on the Riders by scoring twice in the first period. Fargo was up a man when Johnnie Searfoss jammed in the opening goal from the side of the net at 8:57. At 14:18 Matt Leitner doubled the lead from close range.
