Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Representing a strong response from their ever-growing fan base, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans were represented in the top-25 among all affiliated minor league baseball clubs in total merchandising. Myrtle Beach is ranked among the top-25 clubs during the period of January - March, 2008.
The rankings represent an extremely favorable reaction to the Pelicans new logos, color scheme and overall imaging of the ballclub. The Pelicans look was refurbished entering the 2007 season, in an effort to make the Pelicans more cohesive with the region they proudly represent. Prior to the 2008 season, the Pelicans unveiled a brand-new merchandise line featuring apparel for the beach-going baseball fan. The line also includes memorabilia and collectables targeting the truly unique surroundings that the Pelicans feel fortunate to call home.
"We are very pleased that our efforts to image this franchise in a way that our fans both locally and nationally appreciate are being well received," said Pelicans' General Manager North Johnson. "It is a great feeling to know that so many people are responding to what we know is a great thing happening here on the Grand Strand."
That response has been felt at the gate as well, as the Pelicans have enjoyed a 29% increase in overall attendance during the first two months of the season. That increase is on top of numbers from 2007, which was the third highest attendance in team history, ranking behind only the first two years of the franchise's existence.
Adding to the excitement and growing buzz surrounding the Pelicans is a first half title to celebrate. The 2008 Pelicans have assured post-season baseball at BB&T Coastal Field for the first time since 2002, effectively ending what was the longest playoff drought in the Carolina League.
The Pelicans are also the proud hosts of the 2008 California-Carolina League All-Star Game presented by Hard Rock Park on Tuesday, June 24th. Tickets for the game, which also includes a home run derby presented by Carolina Cooling and team autograph sessions are presently available and can be purchased by calling the Pelicans at (843) 918-6000 or toll-free (877) 918-TIXX, visiting the Pelicans Box Office at BB&T Coastal Field or logging on to MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
