THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg dropped the middle game of a three-game set with an 11-3 loss to Myrtle Beach last night on the Grand Strand...The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Hillcats which matched a season-high...Tonight the Cats play the sixth game of a six-game road trip...They are 3-2 on the trip coming into tonight...

VS. MYRTLE BEACH: Last season the Hillcats won the series series against the Pelicans 12-8...Myrtle Beach holds the all-time advantage 100-85 and are 54-40 against the Cats on the Grand Strand...This season the Birds are 5-3 against the Cats...

ALL-STARS: Yesterday the 2008 Carolina League All-Star roster was announced and the Hillcats have two members, 3B Jim Negrych and SS Brian Friday...Negrych is first in the league in batting average (.357) and hits (84), second in runs scored (47), third in on-base percentage (.432) and tied for fourth in RBI (39)...Friday is is ninth in batting average (.300) and fifth in runs scored (42)...Last season Lynchburg had one representative, Jason Delaney, and Shelby Ford and Brad Corley were named to the Post-Season All-Star team...Myrtle Beach has six members on the team for the California League vs. Carolina League All-Star Game that will be held on the Grand Strand at BB&T Coastal Field on June 24th...

RUBBER MATCH: The Hillcats play the rubber match of a three-game series tonight against Myrtle Beach...Lynchburg is 3-4 this season in the deciding game of a series...

ROBERTS TO THE RESCUE: RHP Kevin Roberts recorded his fourth save of the season in as many opportunities Monday night by tossing a scoreless ninth...He earned his third save of the season by tossing two perfect innings of relief on Saturday night...Roberts arrived on the scene with men on the corners and nobody out with the Hillcats clinging to a one-run lead...The righthander struckout the first two men he faced and retired all six men who came to the plate against him...

CATS TAKE THE SERIES: With their 8-3 victory Sunday afternoon the Hillcats earned their first series win since May 5-7 when they took two-out-of-three from Winston-Salem at City Stadium...In the eight series since then Lynchburg had gone 0-6-2...This season the Cats are 4-12-2 in their 18 series this year...

CRUISE CONTROL: RHP Michael Crotta retired 18 consecutive batters during his start on Sunday...Crotta only allowed two hits and one run in a season-high six and 2/3 innings of work in picking up his fifth win of the season...The righthander retired the first 18 he faced in his first start of the season...

SECOND OVERALL PICK: Last Thursday the Pittsburgh Pirates selected 3B Pedro Alvarez with the second overall selection in the 2008 first year player draft...In three seasons at Vanderbilt the slugger collected a combined 49 homers and 160 RBI...Last season the Pirates selected LHP Daniel Moskos with their first-round pick (fourth overall)...Monday night Moskos improved to 5-3 with a win over Myrtle Beach...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Ryne Reynoso was signed after his junior season at Boston College...Last season in his first year as a professional he went 3-4 with a 1.98 ERA and nine saves with the Low-A Rome Braves...After making two appearances with Myrtle Beach last year, this season he started with the Pelicans and has gone 6-3 with a 3.29 ERA as a starter and yesterday was named to the 2008 Carolina League Mid-Season All-Star team...He is named after Cubs Hall of Fame 2B Ryne Sandberg...
