
Falcons Win Streak Halted with 3-1 Loss to IceCaps

St. John's, NL - The Springfield Falcons (44-21-1-5) were defeated by the St. John's IceCaps by the final score of 3-1 Saturday night at Mile One Centre, halting the team's win streak at five games.
St. John's scored the game's first three goals, two of which were netted by forward John Albert. IceCaps winger Jerome Samson scored the other goal at 10:55 of the second period, giving St. John's a 2-0 lead. Albert and Samson are now tied with Andrew Gordon for the team lead in goals this season with 23.
Patrick McNeill got Springfield on the board at 15:27 of the third period, firing a slap shot from the right-wing point that found its way past St. John's netminder Tyler Beskorowany. For McNeill, it was his 10th goal and 35th point of the season, both of which are career highs.
Jeremy Smith made 28 saves on 31 shots in net for the Falcons, falling to 21-14-4 this season. Beskorowany stopped 23 of 24 shots en route to his fifth win in nine appearances in 2013-14.
The Falcons went 0-for-3 on the power play, ending the team's streak of 11 consecutive games with a power-play goal. St. John's went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
With the loss, the Falcons winning streak was ended at five games. Springfield's last loss also came to the IceCaps, March 23 at the MassMutual Center.
The Falcons are back in action at the MassMutual Center Friday, April 11 to host the Portland Pirates at 7:00 p.m.
