Springfield Falcons News Release

Lewiston, Maine - The Springfield Falcons (36-18-1-5) defeated the Portland Pirates by the final score of 9-3 Sunday afternoon at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, matching a league high for the most goals in a single game this season.

The Falcons began the rout early, matching a season high with four goals in the opening frame. Patrick McNeill and Sean Collins gave Springfield an early 2-0 edge with goals at 4:21 and 4:53, respectively, before Dana Tyrell and Darryl Boyce added power-play tallies to extend the Falcons lead to 4-0 heading into the first intermission. For Tyrell, who was acquired by the Columbus Blue Jackets in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning Wednesday, the goal was his first in a Springfield uniform and 10th of the season.

Springfield added three more scores in the second period, getting a power-play goal from Michael Chaput at 9:28, a shorthanded goal from Andrew Joudrey at 10:04 and an even-strength goal from Austin Madaisky at 14:31. In his third season with the team, Joudrey now holds the franchise record for the most shorthanded goals in a Falcons uniform with five, breaking a tie with Matt Calvert, Jeff Daniels, Jason Jaspers, Norm Milley and Erik Westrum.

Jack Skille opened the third period with two quick goals in a 26-second span, beating Portland netminder Louis Domingues at the 1:20 and 1:46 mark. The Madison, Wisconsin native added two assists in the contest, becoming only the second Falcon this season to register a four-point game. Defenseman Tim Erixon accomplished the feat October 18 at the Providence Bruins.

Brett Hextall, Tim Kennedy and Brandon Yip scored the Portland goals.

Mike McKenna made 27 saves on 30 shots, improving to 17-7-1 this season.

Mark Visentin started in net for the Pirates, and made 14 saves on 18 shots faced over two separate stints between the posts. Domingue relieved Visentin at the start of the second period but was removed from the contest after allowing five goals on 13 shots in 21:46 of action.

In Sunday's victory, the Falcons set a season high with three power-play goals, converting on all three of their opportunities with the man advantage. Portland went 0-for-5 on the power play.
