Albany Devils News Release
WORCESTER, MA - Harri Pesonen's goal in the closing minutes secured a point for the Albany Devils, who fell 4-3 in a shootout against the Worcester Sharks Sunday at DCU Center. Albany erased a two goal deficit in the third period only to be bested 2-1 in the penalty shot session.
The Devils exit their three-in-three weekend with three more points and a 30-19-3-7 record. The Sharks registered the third win of their three-game set and move to 27-27-3-1.
The goaltending mat cup included two former Union College teammates. Keith Kinkaid made 23 saves, including three in overtime, while Worcester's Troy Grosenick made 37 saves.
Offensively, Reid Boucher netted his 16th goal of the season and David Wohlberg potted his fourth. Pesonen's tally was his ninth on the year. For Worcester, Marek Viedensky, Rylan Schwartz and John McCarthy each scored.
Albany trailed 2-0 after Viedensky scored at 16:21 of the first and Schwartz followed at 8:52 of the second. Boucher got the Devils on the board off Mattias Tedenby's rebound at 16:34.
McCarthy made it 3-1 at 3:16 of the third period, but Wohlberg closed the game from Rod Pelley and Corbin McPherson at 5:26.
Fromthere, the Devils offense, which averaged just over 37 shots-per-game for the weekend, was running on all cylinders. Pesonen finally netted the equalizer from Mike Sislo and Tim Sestito at 14:24.
In the shootout, Worcester's Daniil Tarasov scored in the first round and Sislo tied the score in the third round. Having elected to shoot second, the Sharks found the winner off Freddie Hamilton stick in the fifth and final round.
Next up, the Devils travel to face the Springfield Falcons Friday at MassMutual Center. The 7 pm game can be streamed online at ahllive.com and can be heard on 104.5 "The Team" ESPN Radio.
