Fresno Falcons News Release

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Falcons and Anchorage Aces combined for 14 goals on Sunday as Fresno won its fifth straight, 8-6, in front of a crowd of 5,299 at Selland Arena.

Anchorage opened the scoring at 7:33 of the first period after Yvan Corbin converted on the power play for his 20th of the year. Cory Murphy would tie the game at one with a power play goal for Fresno at 12:34, but Kimbi Daniels would strike short-handed at 15:15 to give Anchorage a 2-1 lead heading to the second.

The second period was the most wide-open period of hockey – for both teams – that the Falcons have played this season. The teams combined for nine goals, five on the power play, as the Falcons out-gunned the Aces 6-3 in the frame to lead 7-5 after two. The six goals for Fresno tied a franchise record, and they set a new franchise mark for most shots in a period, when they peppered Aces netminder Ryan Person with 31.

Things would settle down considerably in the third. Anchorage again made it a one-goal game, 7-6, when B.J. Young beat Fresno goaltender Mark Gowan at 9:16 for his second of the night, but the Falcons hung on for the 8-6 win after Kirk DeWaele iced the game with an empty-netter with 11 seconds to play.

The victory marked Fresno's season-high fifth in a row and moved them within a single point of the third-place Bakersfield Condors. The Falcons are now 17-12-4 with 38 points.

Fresno and Anchorage meet again on Tuesday as the Falcons continue a five-game home stand at Selland Arena. Face-off is at 7 p.m., and it is a Carl's Jr. Two for Tuesday, with two-for-one coupons good for the game available at Fresno area Carl's Jr. Restaurants. Tickets are still available at the Selland box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www. ticketmaster.com.
