Falcons Player/Assistant Curtis Sheptak Retires

March 2, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - Fresno Falcons player/assistant coach Curtis Sheptak informed the team yesterday that he has decided to retire as a player effective immediately and will return to his hometown of Edmonton, Alberta.

"A situation arose back home that required Curtis' family to return to Edmonton, and he decided it would be best if he joined them," explained Falcons Head Coach Greg Spenrath. "I don't think the game was as fulfilling as Curtis felt it should be anymore, and he made the decision to put family first. We certainly wish him and his family well."

Sheptak appeared in 52 games for the Falcons this season, recording 18 points (5g-13a) and 120 penalty minutes.

Fresno also traded forward Joe Pereira to the Texas Wildcatters today to complete a deal first announced on Monday that initially sent forward Paul Falco to the Wildcatters in exchange for centerman Terry Marchant. Pereira played five games in a Falcons uniform, totaling zero points and seven penalty minutes.

Fresno returns to the ice on Friday when they face the San Diego Gulls in the first half of a home-and-home series that continues on Saturday at the San Diego Sports Arena. Tickets for Friday's 7 p.m. tilt at Save Mart Center are now on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
