Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - Dustin VanBallegooie of the Fresno Falcons scored a goal with 13 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime where David Brisson scored the game-winning goal to extend Fresno's unbeaten streak to eight games (6-0-2).
The game had five lead changes and was back-and-forth all night. To start the scoring, Bakersfield's David Kudelka pounced on a rebound left by Fresno goaltender Brett Jaeger and quickly shot from the face-off circle to give the Condors a 1-0 lead 2:40 into the first period.
Shortly after the ensuing face-off Fresno right winger Shaun Sutter pounced on a give-away and scored an unassisted goal 17 seconds later for a 1-1 tie that lasted through the period.
Bakersfield took a 2-1 lead after Mathieu Brunelle scored 2:58 into the second. The Condors enjoyed their lead for just over four minutes until Mike Kiesman's slapshot from just inside the blue line blazed past two diving Condors defensemen and goalie Jason Wolfe for a 2-2 tie 7:31 into the second.
Sutter then scored his second goal of the night and team-leading 23rd of the year to convert a power play opportunity at 15:23 of the second to give Fresno a 3-2 lead. The goal also marked his league-leading 14th power play goal of the season.
Fresno's lead lasted for over 20 minutes of playing time until Brad Mehalko scored 16:43 into the third for a 3-3 game. Vlad Serov then put Bakersfield back in the lead at 4-3 when his goal went past Jaeger at 17:56 of the period.
With 13 seconds left in regulation and Jaeger pulled in favor of an extra attacker, VanBallegooie's shot off a rebound found the back of the net to send the game into overtime at 4-4. The Falcons then capped the comeback when Brisson pounced on another rebound for the game-winning goal 2:42 into overtime.
With the victory in front of a crowd of 4,027, the Falcons move to 31-17-7 and now trail Bakersfield in the standings by two points as the playoffs approach. The fifth-place San Diego Gulls come to Save Mart Center to play the Falcons on Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m. The Gulls are seven points behind Fresno in the West Division.
Regular-priced tickets are on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497), or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
