Falcons Install Safety Nets
October 17, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â In advance of their home opener tomorrow night at Selland Arena, the Taylor Cup Champion Fresno Falcons have installed safety nets behind each goal to prevent pucks from flying into the stands.
The black twine nets extend 25 feet from the top of the glass. They are 120 feet long, essentially covering the entire length of each goal line.
Prior to this season the National Hockey League mandated to its member teams the installation of such nets to protect fans, and the West Coast Hockey League decided to follow suit.
The Falcons' home opening weekend extravaganza kicks off tomorrow night with a Taylor Cup Finals re-match against the Idaho Steelheads. A pre-game ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. during which returning members from last season 's squad will receive their championship rings and the championship banner will be raised.
The weekend continues on Saturday with another 7:30 p.m. tilt against the Steelheads and wraps-up on Sunday at 5 p.m. when the Falcons welcome the Anchorage Aces to town. Single-game tickets for all three games are now on sale at the Selland Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Season ticket packages and discounted tickets for groups of 20 or more are on sale as well. Call the Falcons offices at 485-PUCK (7825) for more information.
