Falcons Fall To Devils 4-1

The Springfield Falcons lost to the Lowell Devils 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Paul Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA snapping the Falcons' two-game winning streak. The Devils used three power play goals and one shorthanded to earn their second straight win, while the Falcons ended the weekend taking four of a possible six points. Springfied now has a record of 9-5-2-1on the season.

After an opening 10 minutes of play that featured each team swapping power play chances, the Devils opened the scoring at 18:05 of the first period when Tyler Eckford tallied on the power play.

In the second period, the Devils built a 3-0 lead with a pair of power play markers, the first occuring at 1:18 scored by Nicklas Bergfors, followed by Rod Pelley at 10:26 of the middle frame.

The Falcons cut their deficit to 3-1 at 13:26 of the second period when Ryan Potulny scored his team-leading 10th marker of the year giving him two goals and five assists on the weekend.

Trailing by two in the third period, the Falcons had an opportunity midway through the final frame when Lowell's Mark Fraser received a double-minor penalty for high sticking, but Lowell tallied a shorthanded marker at 17:14 of the third period when Jon DiSalvatore slid a wrist shot past Glenn Fisher ending the comeback bid for Springfield.

Fisher made his first AHL start on Sunday stopping 21 of 25 shots on goal.

GAME NOTES

The Falcons announced they have recalled Colin McDonald from their ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder.

There were a pair of fights in the game with Springfield's Mathieu Roy and Lowell's Patrick Davis dropped the gloves, while Geoff Paukovich and Matthew Corrente each collected fighting majors as well.

Boston Bruins assistant coach Geoff Ward is in attendance.

SESTITO ON HIS WAY TO EDMONTON

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled center Tim Sestito from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

The 6'0", 195 pound native from Rome, New York has played 16 games for the Falcons this season and has scored two

goals and an assist with six penalty minutes.

Signed as a free agent by the Oilers on August 1, 2006, Sestito has played the last two seasons in the Edmonton organization with Springfield and the ECHL's Stockton Thunder. A graduate of the OHL's Plymouth Whalers, the 24-year-old forward scored 7-10-17 with a team-leading 175 penalty minutes in 77 games with Springfield in 2006-07.

FALCONS AND DEVILS NOTES

The Falcons are 2-1 against the Devils this season, including two straight wins. Springfield beat Lowell 3-2 to start the month of November back on November 1 at the Paul Tsongas Arena.

Ryan Potulny and Rob Schremp are Springfield's active leaders in scoring against the Devils with Potulny collecting three goals and Schremp adding three assists.

Goaltender Devan Dubnyk has started all 16 of Springfield's games this year and we will see if it's 17 in a row on Sunday.

Ryan Potulny has had back-to-back three-point games this weekend collecting three assists on Friday and adding one goal and two assists on Saturday.

The line of Ryan Potulny, Rob Schremp and Bryan Lerg swept the three stars Saturday night with Schremp taking the first star (1g, 2a), Potulny second (1g,2a), and Lerg the third star (1g,1a).

Bryan Lerg has scored in both games this weekend in his first two games since being recalled from Stockton.

Pascal Rheaume leads Lowell in scoring against Springfield with two goals and four assists for six points in three games.
