LOWELL, Mass. - With Jon DiSalvatore's four-point night and a 3-for-5 performance on the power play, the Lowell Devils beat the Springfield Falcons, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the Tsongas Arena. DiSalvatore recorded a shorthanded goal and three assists for his second four-point game of the season, while also extending his point streak to six games (4g, 8a).
The Devils got out to an early lead on a power play goal at 18:05 of the first period. Defenseman Tyler Eckford launched a slap shot from the far side blue line that caromed off Falcons goaltender Glenn Fisher onto the waiting stick of Chad Wiseman, who knocked it home for his second of the season.
Lowell continued its scoring on the man-advantage just 1:18 into the second period due in part to a great individual effort by DiSalvatore. As the puck was about to leave the offensive zone, the Devils right wing dived to the ice to tip the puck to Eckford, who quickly sent a pass to the far post that Nicklas Bergfors redirected into top of the net. The marker was Bergfors' second power play goal in as many games.
Rod Pelley struck at 10:26 of same period to make the score 3-0 with his third goal in two games and the Devils' third tally of the afternoon on the man-advantage.
The Falcons struck exactly three minutes later for their only score when Ryan Potulny knocked down a fluttering puck in the slot and sent it over the shouler of Jeff Frazee.
DiSalvatore would get a goal of his own with 2:46 left in regulation to give Lowell some insurance. While on the penalty kill, Pascal Rheaume sent a breakaway pass to the Springfield blueline, which DiSalvatore skated in and tucked through the pads of Fisher.
Frazee stopped 24-for-25 shots for his second consecutive victory. The Devils went 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
Lowell completes its three-game home stand on Wednesday, November 26 at 7:00p.m. against the Providence Bruins.
