
Falcon, Roadrunners Shut Out Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas---Ryan Falcon carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning pitching the Edinburg Roadrunners past the McAllen Thunder 8-0 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium Saturday night.
Falcon (3-0) got his third win of the season while scattering two hits and striking out eight in seven innings pitched.
The Roadrunners (33-49) got the scoring started in the top of the first. Antonio De Jesus led off with a double to right field and then moved to third on a ground out to second by Stantrel Smith. R.J. Harris followed with an RBI single allowing De Jesus to score making it 1-0.
Robert Matlock got the scoring started in the top of the third with an infield RBI single that allowed Harris to score from third. Gabe Memmert then hit a two-run double that allowed Osiel Flores, who reached on a fielder's choice, and Matlock to score. Memmert then came in to score on an RBI single by Blake Sanders extending the Roadrunners lead 5-0.
In the top of the fourth, Brandon Wilkerson reached on a fielder's choice and then moved to second on a throwing error. A fielding error at third then allowed Wilkerson to score pushing the Edinburg lead 6-0.
Falcon lost the perfect game in the bottom of the sixth after a couple of walks and then the Thunder (32-50) broke up the no-hit bid in the bottom of the seventh with singles from Vic Ferrante and Adam Matos.
Edinburg added a couple of more runs in the top of the eighth inning. Flores led off with a walk and then moved to second on a single by Matlock. Memmert then hit an RBI double to right center field scoring Flores from second. Sanders then followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Matlock from third making it 8-0.
Blake Parry then pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth innings giving Edinburg the 8-0 victory.
The Thunder and Roadrunners will play the second game of their four-game series Sunday evening at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (0-2) is expected to face Adrian Garza (2-4) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
