Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Trappers captured four Pacific Coast League championships during their storied Triple-A history, and the Edmonton Capitals gave a championship-worthy performance as they celebrated Molson Trappers Night on Friday with a 9-2 win over the Chico Outlaws.
The Caps competed against the Outlaws in retro white and red Trappers jerseys and hats, which were then autographed and auctioned off after the game, raising more than $3,000 for the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation.
Also, fans who came to Friday's game dressed in Trappers clothing or brought along Trappers souvenir collectibles were able to purchase two-for-one tickets. And to cap off the evening in true Trappers style, there was a free post-game concert performed by Edmonton folk rock legends Captain Tractor, who also performed the national anthems.
Everything was working for the Caps on Friday as they won their seventh game in their last eight attempts. First baseman Brent Metheny and third baseman Carlos Duncan each chipped in with two RBI, but It was right fielder Tom Collaro who provided the biggest hit of the game with a monstrous three-run home run in the fifth inning.
It wasn't just the offence that was stellar on Friday, though, as starting pitcher Dallas Buck tossed six innings, scattering nine hits and just two runs with three strikeouts. Canadian lefty David Davidson came on in relief and pitched two perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts, making way for Brandon Villafuerte, who tossed a scoreless, hitless ninth also with two strikeouts.
The Caps are now 49-29 on the season and sit just 0.5 games back of the Calgary Vipers for first place in the NAL's North Division. The provincial rivals have already clinched berths in the division championship playoff series, but home-field advantage and the regular season title are still up for grabs.
The Caps' four-game series with Chico continues Saturday at 7 p.m. for another edition of Saturday Night Movies presented by Herbers Autobody Repair and 96.3 Capital FM. It's Superhero Night, as fans are encouraged to dress up as their favourite superheroes, and the post-game movie on the inflatable big screen in centre field will be The Dark Knight.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer, featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Flex packs are available in multiples of eight for $48 less than day-of-game pricing. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
