Extreme Battle for Second Place at Home

May 13, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Bloomington Extreme News Release

BLOOMINGTON, (Ill.) - This week at 7:00 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum, the Bloomington Extreme (4-5) seek a share of second place in the United Central North Division by beating the current second place team, the Chicago Slaughter (4-4). This will be a tie-breaker for the season series, as it is split even, 1-1.

Last week the Extreme offense managed the game effectively, with Rocky Hinds and Bernard Payton scoring a combined six touchdowns. Some of these scores were due to outstanding play by wide receiver John Cooper. "Cooper had outstanding blocking to help out the running game," said Extreme head coach Ted Schmitz, "He pancake blocked the safety three times throughout the game." On the defensive side of the ball, Justin Harrison and David Darby laid out some hard hits, shutting down the La Crosse offense, including a forced fumble caused by Darby.

The coaching staff has also helped out Schmitz during these turbulent times, working hard to create new offenses, defenses, and special teams formations for the Extreme.

Last week the Chicago Slaughter barely squeaked by the Green Bay Blizzard, on a last second field goal, boosting the Slaughter to victory, 46-43. However Schmitz is determined to win at home, and says the team is ready to take on Chicago. "[U.S. Cellular Coliseum] is our house and we are not relinquishing to Chicago. We lost one here, and we are not losing again." Chicago has been the only team to defeat the Extreme at home this season.
