Alaska Wild
Contrary to a published report, former Alaska Wild head coach Darnell Lee is not AWOL. Lee is in Lake Charles, La., and is the offensive coordinator and Vice-President of Operations for the Louisiana Swashbucklers, the team he coached to three championships.
Along with Lee are at least four players who were on the Wild roster this season: Henry Hunter, Damien Huren, Bryant Mason and Jeff Ridgle. They are expected to play for the Swashbucklers in their Southern Indoor Football League game Saturday night.
Lee has been in contact with Indoor Football League commissioner Tommy Benizio, who in the Anchorage Daily News said he could neither verify nor deny that Lee was still the Wild coach. Lee didn't return to Alaska after the Wild's bye week.
Thursday afternoon the league postponed the Wild's game with Billings scheduled for Saturday, stating a decision would be made on the team's "fate" next week. Alaska doesn't have an owner and is behind on arena rent.
More details will be provided as they are made available.
