Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (37-44) fell just short in Saturday night's extra-inning thriller as they were defeated by the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (45-35) 6-4 at Dell Diamond. With the loss, Round Rock finishes with a 15-12 record in the month of June.
Down by a run with their backs against the wall in the bottom of the ninth, the E-Train rallied to knot the score at 4-4 and send the game to extras. The inning's first batter, SS Hanser Alberto, singled and eventually advanced to second when Colorado Springs RHP Jorge Lopez (3-2, 4.18) lost control of a wild pitch. Round Rock LF Scott Heineman then roped his second double of the night to bring Alberto home and keep hopes for an Express win alive.
Lopez was able to buckle down and push the game into the 10th, when the Sky Sox bats would plate a pair of runs to pull ahead 6-4. Round Rock reliever RHP Tayler Scott (3-3, 4.28) picked off Colorado Springs LF Quintin Berry at second base to record the first out of the inning but would end up with the loss and two earned runs to his name after the inning got away from him.
The Sky Sox proceeded to load the bases after CF Brett Phillips and RF Tyrone Taylor singled and 2B Nate Orf was issued an intentional walk, forcing the Express to call upon recently anointed Triple-A All-Star RHP R.J. Alvarez. After punching out Colorado Springs DH Domingo Santana for the second out, Alvarez surrendered a line drive single to Sky Sox C Jacob Nottingham that brought the go-ahead runs home.
After blowing the save earlier, Lopez was given a chance to redeem himself in the bottom of the 10th. With Round Rock 2B Christian Lopes starting the side on second base, Lopez earned the win for himself and his team as he retired all three Express hitters in order on a strikeout and two groundouts.
Both teams will suit up once again Monday night at Dell Diamond. Round Rock will send LHP Michael Roth (3-1, 3.38) to the mound in opposition of Colorado Springs RHP Aaron Wilkerson (2-2, 2.08). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. CDT.
