Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - Continuing to build its case for the top spot in the Pacific Coast League's American Southern Division, the Express put three games between itself and New Orleans on Saturday with a 9-5 win over the Zephyrs.
Charlton Jimerson lifted a pair of solo home runs, including a blast into the second deck of the Home Run Porch beyond left field, and Cody Ransom finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs.
Mike Rodriguez walked and scored a run, but failed to reach base on a hit, ending his hitting streak at 16 games - one shy of the 2001 record held by Royce Huffman. Ezequiel Astacio scattered three runs over six innings on seven hits and four strikeouts for his third win.
Round Rock, which last week fell to third place in the PCL AS, has picked up five straight wins to bully its way to a season-high three-game lead in the division.
Trailing 2-0 after the first inning, the Express evened the score against Andrew Good in the bottom of the second. Jimerson nailed his 13th homer to left field and Astacio drove Cody Ransom in with his first double of the year.
Brooks Conrad kept Round Rock going in the third inning, drilling a one-out single to right field before Luke Scott drove him in for a 3-2 lead. Royce Huffman followed up with his seventh homer.
One out later, Jimerson blasted a 68-mph delivery from Good 15-feet into the second deck of the Home Run Porch to extend the lead to 6-2.
Joe Valentine allowed one run on one hit and a walk to close out the final two frames for the Express.
The two teams meet twice today, first at 5:05 to make-up a game suspended in the second inning on April 20. They'll follow-up with a seven-inning contest 30 minutes after the suspended game ends. Left-hander Philip Barzilla and right-hander Jason Hirsh are scheduled to start for the Express.
