Express Sign Johan Ryd to ATO

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, announced today that F Johan Ryd has signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement with the club.

Ryd, 22, joins Chicago after spending the last four seasons skating for St. Norbert College (NCAA-DIII). This year, he led his team in goals (14) and points (33). He also was tied for first on the club in assists (19). The 5-11, 200 pound forward racked up 87 points on 34 goals and 53 assists in 80 games with St. Norbert.

Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, Ryd played one season in the J20 SuperElit league, the highest level of junior hockey in Sweden, before coming to North America. He picked up five goals and three assists in 39 games with Sodertalje J20 that season. Prior to his time in the SuperElit league, Ryd skated three seasons for Sodertalje J18 in the J18 Allsvenskan league, the highest level of under-18 hockey in Sweden, starting in 2004-05 when he was just 15 years old. He played 24 games over those three seasons, scoring three goals along with one assist for four points.

The Express hit the road tonight to battle the Cincinnati Cyclones for sole possession of second place in the North Division. They then travel to Kalamazoo on Friday night before hosting the Wings and the Toledo Walleye at the Sears Centre Arena on Saturday and Sunday.
