Express Drop 4-1 Contest to Cincinnati
March 21, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Chicago Express News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, fell by a 4-1 score to the Cincinnati Cyclones at the U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
A back-and-forth opening frame saw the Cyclones take the lead late in the period. With a power play winding down, F Matt Carter took a pass along the right wing and snapped a shot up over the glove of G Rob Madore. The Cyclones held an 11-7 shots on goal advantage at the end of the period.
The Cyclones expanded on their lead in the second period, once again on the power play. With 3:39 left in the frame, F Anthony Luciani fed a pass to C Matthew Sisca, who wristed a shot up over the shoulder of Madore, pushing the Cincinnati lead to 2-0 after the middle frame.
The scoring picked up in the later half of the third period, jumped started when Sisca fed a pass to Luciani on a two-on-one, and Luciani lifted it past Madore to put the Cyclones up 3-0 at 13:29 of the final stanza. D Jonathan Zion came right back for Chicago, putting them back to within striking distance with 5:10 to play. Just 22 seconds later, a series of bad bounces saw the puck deflect off the Chicago defense, past Madore, and into the net, putting Cincinnati back up by a 4-1 score. The Cyclones would hold on from there, taking down the Express 4-1 and placing themselves all alone in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
Power plays: CHI: 0/2; CIN: 2/3
Three stars: 1. M. Sisca (CIN); 2. A. Luciani (CIN); 3. B. Foster (CIN)
Notes:
F Johan Ryd made his Express debut tonight... Chicago failed to score on a power play for the first time in four games. They were 9-for-15 in those four contests... D Taylor Ellington had his five game assist streak (6a) snapped... F Kyle Ostrow returned to the lineup tonight after missing 10 straight games. He was injured on February 26 against Florida.
The Express travel to Kalamazoo on Friday night before hosting the Wings and the Toledo Walleye at the Sears Centre Arena on Saturday and Sunday. After Sunday's game, everyone in attendance is invited to skate with the team for free.
