Express Open Season with OT Loss

(WINDSOR, ON) The 2014-2015 season has started with another Windsor Express/London Lightning classic.
The Express (0-1) came back from a 9 point deficit in the final six minutes of the game to force overtime, but eventually fell 99-97 to the Lightning (1-0) in the opener.
The game featured 16 lead changes and was tied 7 times, most in the final quarter.
Windsor held a 43-37 lead at halftime after a fairly sloppy first quarter by both teams was tightened up in the second.
A hot 3rd period pushed London ahead, 67-61 and the lead expanded before Windsor made their charge.
Former Lightning guard, Tony Bennett missed a shot at the buzzer to send the game to it's extra frame.
Quinnel Brown had 29 points for Windsor, adding seven rebounds, but fouled out early in overtime.
One of the other bright spots for the Express was Windsor native, Gary Gibson, who started the game and played nearly 37 minutes, logging 13 points and 12 rebounds in his NBL debut.
Gibson also featured tight defense, particularly against London's Al Stewart, who was kept to only six points in 29 minutes.
Six Express players scored double digits in points, with Chris Commons also registering a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
London used 31 offensive rebounds, 77 overall, as key down the stretch, and clinging to a 35 point performance by Marvin Phillips.
Phillips made some clutch free throws in the game's final minutes and grabbed 13 rebounds in the process.
Windsor begins the home portion of their schedule on Friday, November 7th against the Brampton A's at the WFCU Centre for a 7:00pm start.
Before the game, the Express will raise their Central Division Champions and NBL Champions banners and present players, coaches and staff with championship rings in a pregame ceremony you won't want to miss.
