BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton A's (0-1) kicked off their 2014-15 season Saturday night at the Powerade Centre against Peel rivals, the Mississauga Power (1-0). After a long battle, the A's suffered a loss in a ï¬Ânal showing of 111-97.
The A's faced a tough Mississauga squad as they trailed for the entire ï¬Ârst half as a result of shooting just 35 percent from the ï¬Âeld. Baskets from beyond the arc that would typically fall for the home team simply didn't. Despite a rough offensive start, the A's still managed to perform well in the paint and force 10 Power turnovers.
Reigning Defensive Player of the Year and A's returner Cavell Johnson led his team at the half with 12 points. The Power were led by Travis Releford who recorded 16 points.
The Second half featured a surge of momentum by the A's as they were able to cut the deï¬Âcit to six points in the third quarter. A relentless effort to inch closer to the Power as the game progressed was deterred by a 51 percent ï¬Âeld goal shooting performance by Mississauga.
Brampton's Newcomer TyShwan Edmondson ï¬Ânished the game with 23 points, while his teammates Johnson, Flenard Whitï¬Âeld, and Anthony Harris registered 18, 16, and 12 points respectively. Omar Strong of the of Mississauga led all scorers with 31 points.
Up next, the Brampton A's will take on the Windsor Express on the road for a 7 pm contest next Friday. The A's will hit the court again at home on November 11th to face the London Lightning.
