
Express Fall 4-3 to Cincinnati in Penalty-Filled Affiar

Cincinnati, OH- The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, came up just short in a penalty filled affair, falling 4-3 to the Cyclones at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati on Thursday night.
The Cyclones struck first, as C A.J. Jenks received a pass that deflected off LW Garrett Wilson and blasted a slapper past G Rob Nolan to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead at 3:36 of the first period. Chicago struck right back, as RW Tyler Donati wristed a shot over the glove of Cyclones goaltender Brian Foster, evening the score at 1-1 just 59 seconds later. Donati struck again at 12:55 of the frame, as he fired a puck into the top right corner of the net on the power play giving the Express a 2-1 lead. The Cyclones tied the game before the end of the period, as F Mathieu Aubin snapped a puck over the shoulder of Nolan, and the period ended tied 2-2. Cincinnati F Justin Vaive was issued a five minute major and a game misconduct for kneeing F Mike Embach at the end of the frame.
The Express regained the lead in the second period, when LW Devin DiDiomete collected a rebound off the end wall and lifted a shot over a sprawling Foster at 12:40 of the middle stanza. The lead didn't last long, as 26 seconds later F Anthony Luciani got a pass from Jenks on stuffed the puck home to even the game at 3-3. The Cyclones would receive another five minute major towards the end of the period, when LW Mike Liambas was issued a charging penalty against Embach, which also unleashed a full on ice brawl between the clubs. At the end of the second period, the Express had been issued a season-high 69 minutes in penalties.
Cincinnati snapped the 3-3 tie when Aubin collected his second goal of the game 7:52 into the final period. D Jeff Foss held the puck in the Cyclones attacking end at the top of the slot, and his pass was deflected past Nolan by Aubin to give Cincinnati a 4-3 lead. It would be the only goal scored in the frame, as the Cyclones held off a late flurry by Chicago to collect a 403 win. Chicago outshot the Cyclones 30-22 in the game.

Notes:
Chicago played short of the maximum 16 skaters for the fourth straight game... Chicago has not won on the road since November 27 in Trenton... The Express had 69 PIM after two periods, but had still not been shorthanded at any point during the game... D Dan Henningson played his first game since returning from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League... Chicago's 75 PIM is their highest total of any single game this season.
The Express return to the Sears Centre Arena for a three game set starting on December 30 against Kalamazoo.
