
Explorers Pound Goldeyes 11-3

Sioux City Explorers News Release
The Sioux City Explorers faced the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the fourth time this season, winning with a score of 11-3 in nine innings.
Sioux City plated the first runs of the game in the second, Ryan Court led off with a double and later scored off a two-out base hit to right by Tim Colwell. Explorers scored one more time in the inning with a Matty Johnson RBI double.
X's shortstop Noah Perio Jr hit a solo homer in the third to make it 3-0. In the top half off the fourth the Explorers bats took fire with seven runs crossing the plate off six hits, two walks and only one runner left on base. In the inning, the X's had three hitters with extra base hits. Matty Johnson and Tommy Mendonca both had doubles in the inning, with Johnson scoring two and Mendonca knocking in one. Explorers shortstop Ryan Court had a two run triple.
Sioux City managed to score one more time Monday night. Brock Kjeldaard had an RBI single in the fifth to give them eleven runs total. Winnipeg only scored three runs in the contest, the Goldeyes plated two in the third off an RBI triple by Adam Heisler and a Casey Haerther RBI single. In the bottom of the fifth, Winnipeg scored their third and final run off a base hit by Casey Haerther sending a runner from third.
Final score, Explorers 11, Goldeyes 3. The X's finished with eleven runs off fifteen hits, Winnipeg had three runs, seven hits and two errors. John Straka (5-1) was the winning pitcher for Sioux City going seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits and three strikeouts. Former Explorers pitcher, now Goldeye starter Dustin Loggins (2-4) was charged with the loss. The right-hander allowed six runs in three innings.
Explorers centerfielder Matty Johnson would be named the Sports Clips Player of the Game. Johnson had two hits (both doubles), a run scored and three runs batted in. X's second baseman Ryan Court also had a strong night at the plate, going 2 for 5 with two runs, two RBIs a double and a triple.
