Explorers Fall 4-1
August 25, 2009 - American Association (AA)
Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City...The Explorers lost 4-1 to Sioux Falls Monday at Lewis and Clark Park in the first game of the final three-game home stand for the X's.
The Canaries scored single runs in the first, fourth, sixth and eighth innings before the Explorers could push over a run with two out in the ninth. Norm Hutchins singled to center field that scored Boomer Berry from second base. Berry singled to start the rally.
It was a frustrating night for the Explorers as the X's stranded 13 base runners, including leaving the bases loaded in the third and seventh innings. Both teams had six hits apiece, but the Canaries made theirs' count.
Losing pitcher Nick Singleton went the distance throwing 144 pitches and striking out eight to move him into second place in the American Association in strike outs. It was the first complete game for Singleton since 2006.
The second game of the three-game series will be played Tuesday at Lewis and Clark Park starting at 7:05.
