El Paso Diablos News Release
Shreveport, LA - The El Paso Diablos fell short in their efforts to derail the Shreveport-Bossier Captains, falling in game two 4-3 on Tuesday night at Fair Grounds Field. El Paso held down the Captains' offense, but was not able to come up with enough of their own as they drop their third straight contest.
El Paso starter Josh Neitz had just one rough inning when he allowed three runs in the fourth inning, but those would be all the runs Neitz would allow on the night. He pitched two outs into the sixth inning and gave up seven hits while striking out three. There would be a trio of pitchers to finish out the game for El Paso, but they gave up the one crucial run in the seventh inning that would decide the game.
Jeff Vincent led El Paso's offense as he accounted for two out of the three runs. Vincent drove in El Paso's first run in the fourth inning on an RBI triple and he scored their second run of the night in the sixth inning. Kennard Bibbs went 2-4 and scored the third run of the night for the Diablos. Bibbs also added three more stolen bases on the night which ups his season total to 32. Juan Camacho went 1-4 and extended his hit streak to 18 games.
After falling behind 3-1, the Diablos clawed back to tied the game with a two out RBI single by Mike Provencher in the sixth inning and a two out RBI single by Arnoldo Ponce in the seventh. Shreveport plated the game's winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a two out hit of their own. El Paso would make things interesting in the ninth when Bibbs stole second and third with two outs but was stranded at third to end the game.
The Diablos play their final road game of the season on Wednesday night at 6:05. A battle of two veteran right-handers is on tap as Justin Mallett (6-4, 3.80) will start for El Paso against Thad Markray (5-9, 5.13) for the Captains.
