Exchange Rate Not Good for Saints, Swept by Les Capitales, 6-3

QUEBEC, QC (June 2, 2013) - Like Notre Dame football back in its glory years or Duke basketball the Quebec les Capitales just don't lose at home. Over the last three seasons they were 106-32 at Stade Municipal de Quebec and undefeated this season in its first eight games going into Sunday. The St. Paul Saints found out how tough they are as they were swept in a three game series, losing the finale 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.

The first inning was a tell-tale sign of the game as the Saints failed to cash in on their opportunity. Dan Kaczrowski and Joey Becker singled with one out. Les Capitales starting pitcher Jeff Duda, however, got Craig Brazell to fly out and, after walking Brandon Tripp to load the bases, struck out Jose Hernandez looking to end the inning.

In the bottom of the first Jeff Helps led off with a double, Maxime Lefevre then laid down a sacrifice bunt that Saints pitcher Wes Roemer fielded, but looked at third and by the time he went to throw to first it was too late as Lefevre reached on a single. Catcher Benji Johnson then attempted to throw out Lefevre on a back pick at first, but threw it into right field allowing Helps to score and sending Lefevre to third. A sacrifice fly by Rene Leveret made it 2-0 les Capitales.

In the second Royce Consigli hit a solo homer off the very top of the right field wall, that bounced high in the air and landed over the wall, his fifth of the season, to make it 3-0.

The Saints got one back in the third on Brad Boyer's second homer of the season to make it 3-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, however, back-to-back doubles by Leveret and Josue Peley plated a run to give les Capitales a 4-1 lead,

It stayed that way until the eighth when Brandon Tripp doubled with two outs and Hernandez followed with a two-run homer to right-center, his first of the season, to cut the deficit to 4-3.

In the bottom of the eighth les Capitales answered right back when Dustin Klabunde loaded the bases with nobody out on two walks and a single. Matt Meyer took over for Klabunde and after getting a shallow fly out, gave up a two-run bloop single to Asif Shah that put the game out of reach.

The Saints head to their final city on the 10-game roadtrip as they head to Provident Bank Park to take on the Rockland Boulders in a four game series beginning Monday night at 7:00 p.m. eastern. The Saints send RHP Mark Hamburger (0-1, 5.09) to the mound. The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM.
