
Ex- Eskimo Steve Mendryk Dies

( Edmonton ) Dr. Stephen Mendryk, a member of the Edmonton Eskimos dynasty teams of the 1950's, has died in Edmonton after a lengthy illness.
Born in Edmonton 's McCauley district, Mendryk was a true multi-sport star, excelling in hockey, wrestling, basketball and football. A member of the University of Alberta and Edmonton Sports Halls of Fame, Mendry k p layed 9 seasons for the Esks (1949 - 1956, 1958). As a member of the Edmonton 's Grey Cup winning squads of 1954, '55 and '56, Mendryk has also been inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.
Mendryk went on to a distinguished academic career, receiving a Masters degree from Berkeley and his PH.D (Physical Education) from Oregon . He would become a highly regarded professor at the University of Alberta .
Dr.Mendryk is survived by his wife Jeanne and three children, daughter Marlene Ferguson and son Wayne Mendryk of Edmonton and daughter Michelle Ryan of Hamilton .
A memorial for Dr. Mendryk will take place Thursday, November 24th in St. Albert, AB.
