Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE - Wilmington Blue Rocks starting pitcher Everett Teaford was promoted to the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Thursday. Teaford will report to his new team over the weekend.
The left-hander spent two seasons in Wilmington, and was twice named to the Carolina League All-Star team. He leaves the Riverfront with a 15-7 record and a 3.37 ERA in his career as a Blue Rock.
The promotion comes as Teaford was in the midst of the best season of his professional career. The 25-year-old Alpharetta, GA native is 7-1 in 2009, with a 2.39 ERA. He ranks second in the Carolina League in wins, and fifth in ERA.
Teaford was named the C.L. Pitcher of the Week on May 25. His final start with the Rocks featured seven scoreless innings, with four strikeouts and no walks in Wilmington's 2-0 win over the Salem Red Sox on Tuesday.
Off the field, Teaford was one of the most community-friendly players in franchise history. In 2008 he won the Carolina League's inaugural Matt Minker Award, which goes to the player who best exemplifies the former Wilmington owner's benevolence for the city and her people.
As lady luck would have it, the Blue Rocks were already set to honor the pitcher by giving the first 1,000 fans in attendance on June 28 an Everett Teaford bobblehead.
