Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Carter Hart turned in a 39-save shutout and the Everett Silvertips used three goals in the final 21 minutes of play to knock off the Spokane Chiefs in a 3-0 victory, their seventh win in a row tonight in front of a crowd of 4,173 at XFINITY Arena in WHL action on Friday.

Hart got his 24th shutout of his career and Sean Richards, who broke a scoreless tie late in the second period, earned the game winning goal. The Tips moved to within five points of first place in the U.S. Division after Vancouver defeated Portland, 1-0 earlier on Friday night.

UP NEXT: The Silvertips open a three-game road trip at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, visiting the Portland Winterhawks at 6:00 p.m. (Fox Sports 1380 / FM 95.3 / Tips App / WHL Live).

The first period was rough as Everett struggled against the speedy Spokane Chiefs. Hart made big saves against Jared Anderson-Dolan, shorthanded, on a breakaway to keep the score 0-0. Both Everett and Spokane exchanged power plays but both teams' penalty kills were sharp and it was a scoreless first period. Anderson-Dolan and Wylie dropped the gloves at the end of the first, each getting five for fighting.

The second period saw similar struggles to the first period where Spokane maintained a majority of possession and playing from behind caused an uncharacteristic amount of penalties for the Tips. The penalty kill continued their efficiency and managed to keep the Chiefs scoreless.

Midway through the second period a second fight ensued as Dawson Butt and Riley McKay dropped the gloves at center ice, each getting five for fighting. Richards broke the scoreless tie 47.5 to go in the second period with a beauty snipe from the left circle, making the score 1-0 Tips.

The momentum from the late second period goal carried over into the third period as Matt Fonteyne got his 15th of the year at the one minute mark, set up in the right corner Kevin Davis and Patrick Bajkov, making the score 2-0 Tips.

Everett took 3 more penalties during the third period but was able to successfully kill off each one thanks to big saves from Hart and great blocks by the special teams.

Spokane goaltender Declan Hobbs with 3 minutes remaining and Patrick Bajkov sealed the deal with an empty net goal from Montana Honeybunch with 2:25 remaining, on a bid from his own zone, making the score 3-0.
