The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Regina Pats 7-5 on Friday night at the Brandt Centre in Regina.
Pats defenceman Josh Mahura(9) opened the scoring at 4:00 for Regina's Teddy Bear Toss goal. Leif Mattson(8) quickly responded for the Rockets at 5:37. Braydyn Chizen(3) pulled Kelowna ahead at 9:54, but seven seconds later Nick Henry(3) evened things up again. Henry(4) pulled the Pats ahead late in the period, but 1:05 later Nolan Foote(8) knotted things up at 3-3. With 22 seconds remaining in the frame Mahura(10) collected his second of the night to give the Pats a 4-3 edge heading into the first intermission.
Roman Basran started the second period for Kelowna in James Porter's relief. Leif Mattson(9) scored his second of the night to even things up once again at 2:13. Dillon Dube(17) scored a shorthanded marker for Kelowna at 5:40 to regain a Rockets lead. Kelowna held that lead into the third period.
5:17 into the final frame Carsen Twarynski(20) extended the Rockets lead by two. Nolan Foote(9) got his second of the evening to make it 7-4 Kelowna at 8:58. Mahura(11) would complete the hat-trick late in the game but that would be it for Regina as Kelowna takes it 7-5.
Roman Basran's record improves to 3-0-0-0 after coming into the game in the second period and stopping 22 of 23 shots he faced. James Porter stopped 10 of 14 in the first as the Rockets were outshot 37-32.
The Rockets enjoyed multi-point evenings from Nolan Foote(2G), Leif Mattson(2G), and Libor Zabransky(2A).
Kelowna's record improves to 18-8-2-1.
The Rockets are back in action tomorrow night in Brandon when they take on the Wheat Kings. Puck drop is at 5:30pm.
Following Saturday night the Rockets are on the road once again, this time heading to Moose Jaw for a battle with the Warriors on Tuesday, December 12th. Kelowna visits Swift Current the next night(13th) before making a stop in Prince Albert to face the Raiders on the 15th. They finish off the road trip in Saskatoon on December 16th.
The next home game for the Rockets will be December 27th when they host the Kamloops Blazers at Prospera Place for a holiday B.C. Division battle.
