ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades completed their two preseason games this past week with both coming against the Phoenix Road Runners. The Everblades won both games and now head into the final week of training camp this week before opening the regular season this weekend.
THIS WEEK (All Times Eastern)
Friday & Saturday, October 17 & 18 vs. Charlotte Checkers 7:30 p.m. (Both Games)
GAME NOTES: The Everblades open the 2008-09 season with a pair of home games against the Charlotte Checkers. The two games will be the first two of 11 meetings between the division rivals this season, and the first two of seven at Germain Arena. The Everblades hold an all-time record of 28-12-3 vs. Charlotte, and are 17-2-0 all-time at home vs. the Checkers.
Promotions:
Oct. 17: All fans in attendance will receive a lighted necklace courtesy of Seminole Museum and Billy's Swamp Safari!
Oct. 18: The first 5,000 fans will receive a 2008-09 Everblades magnetic schedule thanks to Engle Homes!
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
Friday, October 10 vs. Phoenix Road Runners 7-0 W
Everblades fans got their chance to see the new-look Florida Everblades on Friday night and weren't disappointed as the Blades handed Phoenix a 7-0 loss. Danick Bouchard and Justin Bowers each scored two goals, and Aaron Brocklehurst, Andrew Fournier & Ernie Hartlieb added the other markers...rookie goaltender David Leggio earned the shutout by stopping all 18 shots he faced...the Everblades out shot Phoenix 30-18...Florida finished 2-for-6 on the power play and killed off all eight power play chances for the Road Runners.
Saturday, October 12 vs. Phoenix Road Runners 4-2 W
The Everblades finished out their pre-season schedule with a 4-2 win over the Road Runners, sweeping the weekend set from their west coast opponent...After allowing the game's first goal early in the second period the Everblades scored the game's next three...Kevin Baker and Jacob Micflikier scored second period power play goals and Aaron Brocklehurst added an early third period goal...Colin Nicholson sealed the win with an empty net goal after Phoenix closed to within one...goaltender David Shantz earned the win in net for Florida...The Everblades were out shot 34-31...Florida finished 2-for-10 on the power play and the killed off all 12 Phoenix power play chances.

Everblades at a Glance: The Florida Everblades begin their 11th season of play in the ECHL in 2008-09...The Everblades have compiled an all-time record of 418-223-75 since they began play in the 1998-99 season...The Everblades have qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of their ten previous seasons, and have twice advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals (2003-04 & 2004-05)...Over the past four seasons the Everblades have combined for 173 wins for an average of 43 per season...the Everblades finished off the 2007-08 season with a 39-25-8 record for 86 points...for the first time since the 2001-02 season the Everblades will feature a new face behind the bench as Malcolm Cameron takes over the helm...Cameron became just the third head coach in team history after his hiring in May replacing Gerry Fleming...Cameron has compiled a 208-107-45 record as a head coach in the ECHL with Cincinnati, Long Beach and Texas...last season Cameron led the Texas Wildcatters to a 52-9-11 record for 115 points...in post-season play Cameron is 25-23...the faces on the player bench have gone through a big change, with only three players (Ernie Hartlieb, Brad Herauf and David Shantz) returning from the 2007-08 season.
Milestones: Heading into the 2008-09 season, here are some milestones that Everblades players could reach this upcoming season: Forward Kevin Baker is eight goals shy of recording his 100th career goal, three assists away from notching his 100th career assist and is 11 points away from reaching 200 in his career...forward Ross Carlson is 28 games away from his 100th career game played...forward Ernie Hartlieb is 40 games shy of his 500th career game...forward Riley Emmerson needs to play in seven games to reach the 100 mark...forward Brad Herauf is 34 games away from playing in his 300th career game...forward Ryan Lang finds himself 34 points away from the 200 point mark in his career...forward Mark Lee is 41 games away from the 300 mark and is four assists shy of the 150 mark...forward Colin Nicholson is ten games away from reaching the century mark...defenseman Kyle Peto needs to play in 34 games to hit 100 in his career...forward Mathieu Roy will hit the 100 games played mark in his career with 28 games played...defenseman A.J. Thelen will also reach the 100 games played milestone by playing in 36 games.
Community Appearance: This week the Everblades will have players visiting Bonita Springs Charter School on Wednesday, October 15 from 1:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. to read to the school children.
Everblades Coach's Show!: The Everblades coach's show "Blades Talk!" makes it's debut on Tuesday, October 14 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.! The show will take place live each Tuesday the team is in town at J. Daniels Bar & Grill located at the corner of Daniels Pkwy. & Fiddlesticks Rd. in Ft. Myers. Fans are encouraged to join Everblades head coach Malcolm Cameron and the voice of the Everblades Kevin Reiter live in person at J. Daniels. The show can also be heard live on 770 ESPN Radio and can heard via the internet by visiting the Everblades website at www.floridaeverblades.com.

Fans can purchase tickets at the Germain Arena box office, which is open from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
