Florida Everblades News Release
STOCKTON, CA - The Florida Everblades (24-9-2) collected an overtime power play goal by Anders Strome to help up-end the Stockton Thunder 5-4 on Saturday night at the Stockton Arena.
The win didn't come eay for the Everblades with the Thunder jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of play with a pair of power play goals. Nathan Martz notched the first goal of the night picking up his seventh goal of the season at 5:46. Maris Ziedins tallied the second man-advantage goal for Stockton at 10:03 by chipping a shot past Florida goaltender Kevin Nastiuk, who was making his first start in goal for the Everblades since being assigned by Lowell of the American Hockey League.
A wild second period saw the Everblades battle back to tie the game before seeing Stockton (6-19-5) regain their lead. Florida clawed back to within a goal on Phil Aucoin's 10th goal of the season at 5:59, then tied the game when Brandon Coalter jammed a rebound past Thunder net-minder Jake Moreland at 11:13. Stockton however, regained the lead with their third power play goal of the night on Ziedins' second tally of the contest with 2:36 remaining in the period.
In the third period, the Everblades scrambled back with two goals in the final two minutes to take a 4-3 lead. Corey Neilson notched his first as an Everblade and seventh on the season at 18:04 to tie the game at three, then Ryan Brindley gave Florida their first lead of the night just 47 seconds later with his fourth goal of the year.
The Everblades found themselves less than a minute from the win before Stockton, with Moreland pulled for the extra attacker, saw Geno Parrish pin-ball a shot past Nastiuk with 41 seconds left in regulation.
In overtime, the Thunder began with a power play, but were later called for a penalty of their own setting up the Everblades power play opportunity and Strome's eventual game-winner with 2:56 left in the extra period. The win in the extra session increased Florida's record to 3-4 in game decided in overtime.
Nastiuk earned the win in his first start as an Everblade by turning away 20 of 24 Stockton shots. Moreland picked up a tie in the standings, which knocked his record to 4-10-1, after allowing five goals on 44 Florida shots.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-for-5, while Stockton finished off game going 3-for-5.
