Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) endash Starting pitcher Bryce Morrow threw six shutout innings as the Evansille Otters beat the Southern Illinois Miners 6-1 on Monday night.

The Otters staff struck out 13 Miners batters on the night, totaling a league high 54 strikeouts in the first four games.

Evansville started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Nick Schwaner.

Catcher Bubba Garcia then added to the 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the second inning and that was all the necessary scoring that Evansville needed.

Pitcher Bryce Morrow made his first professional start for the Otters, zooming through six innings, and striking out a career high nine batters.

Outfielder Matt Sheely added a late RBI double and designated hitter Brett Chamberlain scored another pair of runs with a blooping two-run single in the 8th inning of the win.

The Evansville Otters and the Southern Illinois Miners are now both 2-2 this season.

Bryce Morrow (1-0) earns the win for Evansville, the second victory in his young career. Thomas Campbell (0-1) takes the loss for Southern Illinois. The right-hander allowed two runs over three innings.

Closer Eric Massingham records his first save for the Otters this season. "MASS" now has 23 saves in his career after retiring the tying run in the 8th inning, and striking out all four batters that he faced.

It will be a quick turnaround for both teams and the 2,015 fans on Deaconess Regional Services Night at Bosse Field. Evansville and Southern Illinois will continue their series with a special 10:35 a.m. mid-morning game tomorrow. Lefty Matt Zielinski will start for the Otters as he will be opposed by fellow southpaw Brian Fowler.
