Evansville Otters Sign Outfielder Jeremy Nowak

April 1, 2014 - Frontier League (FL) - Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters signed outfielder Jeremy Nowak on Tuesday afternoon.

Nowak, 26, was the 13th round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft. The New York native played three years in the Orioles' system, reaching as high as Class A Frederick in 2012 (.288, 7 HR, 44 RBIs). Nowak was a member of the Trois-Rivieres Aigles of the Can-Am League last season (.241, 4 HR, 38 RBIs).

"Jeremy should be a middle of the lineup guy who figures into our outfield or first base positions," said Otters manager Andy McCauley. "As a switch hitter, he will add to the flexibility of our lineup. I am looking forward to working with Jeremy after coming off of good seasons with the Orioles as well as in the Can-Am League."

Nowak played three years collegiately at Stony Brook University, hitting .286 in his career while also going 9-3 on the mound over 38 appearances. He played for Mount Olive College (NC) his senior year before signing with the Orioles. Nowak is anxious to begin his time in Evansville.

"I am very excited having the chance to be a part of the Evansville Otters organization and in the Frontier League altogether," said Nowak. "Having played at Double Day Field a handful of times in my life, I was always a big fan of playing in a place that carries a long history and tradition. And I am looking forward to being able to call Bosse Field my home field. I have been training hard this off-season, and I am ready to perform and help the team win."

The Otters start the 2014 season on the road at the Normal CornBelters on May 16. Otters Opening Day will take place on Wednesday, May 21st at historic Bosse Field with a unique doubleheader against the Rockford Aviators. First pitch will take place at 5:35 pm CT.

Businesses interested in participating with the Otters through advertising, group outings, or season tickets should call the Otters front office at (812) 435-8686.

The Otters also offer paid internships to college students as well. The internships are available in the concessions and group outings fields. Expected start date is May 1, 2014. Those interested can email their cover letter and resume to [email protected] .
