The Evansville Otters signed catcher Joe Solomeno to a contract extension on Wednesday.

Solomeno began his professional career with the Otters in 2013 after playing collegiately at Pace University. The Holbrook, New York native appeared in six games, notching his first professional start and hit on September 1 against the Schaumburg Boomers.

"I am really excited and blessed to be able to re-sign with the Otters," Solomeno said. "It was a great opportunity and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the Frontier League. Bosse Field is truly a great ballpark and family environment to play in."

Solomeno was a criminal justice manager at Pace where he hit .279 his senior year in the spring of 2013. He also earned two National Championships while playing for Briarcliff College.

"Joe did a great job for us last year," said Otters manager Andy McCauley. "He will be looking to see time behind the plate and other opportunities as well."

The Otters start the 2014 season on the road at the Normal CornBelters on May 16. Otters Opening Day will take place on Wednesday, May 21st at historic Bosse Field with a unique doubleheader against the Rockford Aviators. First pitch will take place at 5:35 pm CT.

Businesses interested in participating with the Otters through advertising, group outings, or season tickets should call the Otters front office at (812) 435-8686.

The Otters also offer paid internships to college students as well. The internships are available in the concessions and group outings fields. Expected start date is May 1, 2014. Those interested can email their cover letter and resume to ottersbb@evansville.net .
