Evansville Otters News Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (6-2) allowed a 3-1 lead to slip away in the top of the eighth inning at Bosse Field last night, but a Josh Allen two-out RBI double in the bottom of the frame put them back on top and Edgar Lopez converted his fourth save in as many chances to give the Otters their fifth win in a row, downing the Florence Freedom (5-3) 4-3 on Toyota Manufacturing Activities Association Fireworks night.
Trevor Walch put up another solid start and was in line for the win after throwing 5.1 innings pitched and allowing just one run despite four walks and six hits and striking out three Freedom batters.
Connor Little went 2.1 innings pitched after taking over for Walch, but Blake Monar allowed an inherited runner to score on the only batter he faced and Evan Mott followed by giving up two hits, thus allowing Monar's batter to score and erasing the Otters 3-1 lead. However, Lopez took the mound in the top of the ninth after the Allen double put the Otters out in front and although he had to work around an error and was stuck in a bases loaded jam with one out, he was able to induce a 6-3 double play on a 2-1 count to end the ball game.
Josh Allen continued to see the ball well, stroking two more hits and walking once, reaching base safely in all four plate appearances last night. The scorching homestand for Kurt Wertz Jr. continued as he went 2-for-4 while scoring two runs one night after driving home five. Cory Urquhart also contributed yet again from the nine spot, knocking in two and is now 2-for-3 with runners in scoring position with four RBI.
Today's matchup features Tyler Vail (0-0), who is looking to bounce back from his first start in which he allowed five runs in five innings in a no decision, versus Coleman Stephens (2-0, 0.60). Stephens' has won both of his starts this season while striking out eleven and walking just three in a total of 15 innings.
