Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, OR - The Exxon Mobil Super Tour has started it's "Go the Distance" Baseball Tour this summer and will be stopping in Eugene on June 18 and 19. The 2016 edition of the Tour is visiting 31 classic baseball cities and bringing the legendary, 40-foot Mobil Super RV and brand mascot Mobil Super Sam along for the ride. Also joining the tour for their Eugene pit stop is former National league batting champion Bill Buckner, who will be at PK Park on June 18.

The Mobil Super Tour will kick off at 11 a.m. and go until 1 p.m. at Bi-mart on Willakenzie Rd. on June 18, before it heads over to PK Park to greet fans and sign autographs before the Emeralds take on the Boise Hawks in the last two games of the series. Special prizes and promotions will be available for fans in attendance, including the chance to throw the evening's ceremonial first pitch or to join Mobil Super Sam on the field between innings for exciting games, contests or giveaways.

The Emeralds are excited to be one of the eight cities on the Tour that will serve as a "star stop," where baseball legend Bill Buckner will be at PK Park on June 18. During his twenty-year career, Buckner accumulated more than 2,700 hits. He won one batting title and was named an All-Star in 1981. He is one of the few players who had a 200 hit-season in both leagues and played in four decades. Buckner will be on hand to sign autographs and will take part in the first pitches before the game.

The Eugene Emeralds are the short-season Class A team of the Chicago Cubs. In 2015, six of the top 30 Cubs prospects spent time in Eugene including Ian Happ, Donnie Dewees and Eloy Jimenez. With 61 years, the Emeralds are the longest tenured and only founding member remaining in the Northwest League.
