Boise Hawks News Release
EUGENE, Ore. - A pair of safety squeeze bunts in the seventh inning broke a 2-2 tie, as the Eugene Emeralds defeated the Boise Hawks, 7-2, before 3,616 fans at PK Park.
After the Hawks tied the score in the top of the seventh on a Rock Shoulders RBI single, Chris Burke lined a ball to right, past a diving Willson Contreras and rolled to the wall for a leadoff triple. After River Stevens walked, Alberth Martinez layed down a safety squeeze bunt to score Burke, with Stevens scoring and Martinez moving to third when Jeimer Candelario's throw went down the first base line. One out later, Corey Adamson followed suit, placing a perfect bunt down the third base line, scoring Martinez to make it 5-2.
Eugene led 2-0 in the second after a Burke sacrifice fly and a Martinez RBI single, but Boise closed it to 2-1 in the fifth on Shoulders' fifth homer of the year.
Justin Hancock got a no-decision for the Ems, despite allowing just two hits and one run in six innings.
Shoulders went 4-for-4 with a double, a homer, and two RBI in the loss.
Game 3 of the series is tomorrow night with Jose Arias meeting Kyle Ottoson at 8:05 p.m.
