Canadians Dodge Rain To Shutout Spokane On Friday
July 20, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - Vancouver pitching took center stage on Friday afternoon as three arms did not allow an Indians runner to reach third base as the Canadians shutout Spokane 4-0 to improve to 20-14 (.588) on the Northwest League season.
Starter RHP Taylor Cole was fantastic over his four innings of two-hit baseball, striking out a season high six Spokane batters before turning the ball over to the Canadians bullpen. From there, LHP Kyle Anderson (3.0IP) and RHP Tucker Donahue (2.0IP) would scatter six hits over the final five innings and not allow a Spokane base runner to reach third base.
Offensively, Vancouver managed just five hits in the game, but made them count with 3B Jason Leblebijian hitting a two-run double down the right field line that scored both 1B Balbino Fuenmayor (double) and RF Nick Baligod (single) as part of a three-run, bottom of the 6th inning.
Notes: SS Jorge Flores was 0-for-3 on the afternoon to see his nine-game hitting streak snapped... Flores is hitting .378 (14-for-37) over that span... This is the second shutout of the season for Vancouver pitching as they did not allow a run in a 1-0 victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils back on June 22nd out at Scotiabank Field... With RHP Taylor Cole's three scoreless innings, the former Brigham Young University standout drops his ERA to just 0.50 over 18.0 innings of work, striking out 17 against just seven walks.
