Hillsboro Hops News Release

Hillsboro, OR - Game one of the series was all Eugene, as they put up nine runs and struck out 14 on Tuesday. Landen Roupp had another solid start, moving to 3-0 and striking out nine over five innings. Emery, Glowenke, Matos and Pomares all had two-hit games, with Whiteman and Glowenke driving in three runs each, in the Emeralds' 9-1 win.

Last time Jamison Hill faced Eugene, he struck out a franchise record 13 batters, including a Northwest league record nine consecutive strikeouts. He struck out the first two hitters he faced on Tuesday in a clean first inning.

Back-to-back walks got the second inning started for Eugene, as Jimmy Glowenke was given the green light on a 3-0 pitch and homered to left field. Glowenke also hit a grand slam against the Hops on July 31st at PK Park.

Luis Matos and Jairo Pomares combined for a run in the third against Hill, with Matos doubling and Pomares driving him home on an RBI single.

The only run Landen Roupp allowed was in the fourth off the bat of Deyvison De Los Santos, who hit a solo home run 418-feet to dead center field, his 18th home run of the season. Roupp struck out nine over five innings, allowing just three hits and one run.

The second home run of the game for the Emeralds was by 2020 first-round pick, Patrick Bailey, his 11th of the season. Bailey gave the Ems a 6-1 lead.

Hill's night was finished after five innings pitched, allowing six runs and six hits. He followed up his 13-strikeout performance against the Emeralds with seven, in game one of the series.

The eighth inning resulted in three more runs for Eugene, on four hits in the inning and a bases clearing triple by Simon Whiteman. Whiteman hit the ball to left field bouncing over the head of Channy Ortiz and rolling all the way to the wall. Whiteman attempted the inside-the-park home run, but was thrown out at the plate. 9-1 would be the final score.

The Eugene bullpen lowered their Northwest League leading reliever ERA after four scoreless one-hit innings from Crawford, Morreale, Gates and Sanchez. Emeralds' pitching struck out 14 in the game.

Hillsboro (47-60) and Eugene (66-40) will play game two of a six-game series at Ron Tonkin Field on Wednesday. The pre-game show will start at 6:50 with first pitch at 7:05, on Rip City Radio 620 and MiLB.tv.
