Eskimos Mourn the Passing of Neill Armstrong

The Edmonton Eskimos mourn the passing of former head coach Neill Armstrong who passed away on August 10 at the age of 90.
Armstrong coached the Eskimos from 1964-69, leading the Green and Gold to the playoffs in three consecutive seasons (1966-68).
A native of Tishomingo, Oklahoma he played for the Philadelphia Eagles for five seasons (1947-51) as a wide receiver and defensive back, winning NFL championships in 1948 and 1949. He then went on to play for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for three seasons (1951 and 1953-54).
He entered the coaching ranks in 1962 as an assistant coach with the NFL's Houston Oilers. After two seasons, he returned to Canada coaching the Edmonton Eskimos to a combined record of 37-56-3.
Armstrong was an assistant coach with the Minnesota Vikings (1970-77). He then became an NFL head coach with the Chicago Bears for four seasons (1978-81), before finishing his coaching career with the Dallas Cowboys as an assistant (1982-89).
During his 28-year coaching career year, he amassed a combined head coaching record of 67-90-3.
