(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos announced today the signing of free agent quarterback Bart Hendricks.
A product of Boise State University, Hendricks was the most prolific quarterback in school history. During his collegiate career he set 10 school records including career touchdowns(78), single season total offence(3,633 in 2000) and finished top four in the Big West conference in touchdown passes, total offence, passing yards and completions. In his senior season, Hendricks passed for 3,364 yards and 35 TDs. In 2000, he led the NCAA with 35 TDs and a passing efficiency rating of 170.63 and was a finalist for the John Unitas Golden Arm Award. Hendricks was also named MVP for the Crucial.com/Humanitarian Bowl.
Signed as a free agent by the San Diego Chargers, Hendricks was allocated to the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe for the 2002 season and then re-assigned to Frankfurt for the start of the '02 campaign. Eskimos starting quarterback Jason Maas suffered a bruised shoulder last Friday against Saskatchewan. Newcomer Ricky Ray is expected to start Friday when the Eskimos (3-1-0) host the BC Lions (1-3-0) at Commonwealth Stadium.
