Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Worcester, MA -- The Worcester Tornadoes committed four errors, leading to five unearned runs, as the Nashua Pride capitalized on wet field conditions to beat the Tornadoes, 7-3. The game was called in the middle of the 7th inning due to torrential downpours.
The Pride scored the first run of the game in the 2nd inning, using a Rich Giannotti two-out RBI double after the first Worcester error to go up 1-0. The Tornadoes would come back to take the lead with two runs (one earned) in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a clutch two-out, two-run single to left by Patrick Perry that made it 2-1. But Nashua would reclaim the advantage at 3-2 with two runs (one earned) in the 5th, using a Olmo Rosario RBI single and two more Worcester errors to go up 3-2. The Tornadoes tied it at 3 in the bottom half of the 5th when Andrew Wishy hit a one-out double and scored on another two-out hit by Perry. Perry now has multiple hits in five consecutive games.
But Nashua would break things open for good in the top of the 6th inning, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring four runs on four hits, two walks and another costly Tornadoes error (three of the four runs were unearned) to take a 7-3 lead. A steady rain fell all night, but it turned into torrential downpours in the 7th inning, forcing play to be halted. After a 33-minute delay, the umpire crew ended the game and awarded the victory to Nashua.
Jason Kosow (1-1) pitched 5 innings for the win and Alex Pena (3-2) took the loss. Only two of the seven runs he allowed were earned. The Tornadoes will look to take the rubber game of their three-game series at home against the Pride when they send lefty Mike Meagher to the mound on Thursday night. He will be opposed by Pride righty Eiji Yano. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
