Error Proves Costly

Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Silver Sox (4-7) held the Outlaws (5-8) scoreless until the seventh inning when a fielding error on a pop fly ball to right field, that would have ended the inning, began an Outlaw eight run rally as the Sox lost 9-5 last night in Reno.

Starting pitcher for the Silver Sox Derrick Landavazo (1-1) was throwing a no-hitter until the seventh, but after the devastating error, that cost the first two runs in an eight run rally, Landavazo fell out of his groove. Landavazo ended up allowing seven runs, none of them earned, off four hits, walking four and striking out six in his 6.2 innings. Billy Simon came into finish the game for the Sox and allowed two runs off four hits, walking one, and striking out three.

Since both pitchers were throwing amazing games, the Sox offense had to resort to some new tactics in order to bring in the runs early. In the fourth, CF Gary Harris reached on an error and then 2B Carlos Madrid hit an infield single that moved Harris to second. 1B Ryan Brown got a sacrifice hit that advanced the runners. 3B John Hattig then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the first run of the game. Hattig was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

In the fifth C Adam Geery knocked in two runs with a double to bring the score to 3-0. Simon gave up one more run in the eighth and the Sox needed to rally. Senreiso hit a sacrifice fly which brought in Brown. DH D.J. Dixon followed that up with a single that brought in Hattig. It was all the offense could muster though as the Sox took a disappointing loss. Dixon was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Silver Sox take on the Outlaws again tonight in a double header. The gates open at 4 P.M. with the first game starting at 5 P.M.
